Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and raised between the United States and Italy, Patricia Fraser is a multidisciplinary artist whose work reflects a rich tapestry of cultural influences. She currently lives and works in Milan while maintaining a profound connection to the diverse cultures that have shaped her identity.
Patricia’s creative path began with a background in classical dance and music, nurturing her early sensitivity to rhythm, form, and expression. She studied Social Sciences at Milan State University, later gaining professional experience in the fashion and furniture industries. This exposure to design aesthetics naturally led her to explore artistic creation more deeply, ultimately collaborating with her father and beginning her formal journey under the mentorship of Professor Luigi Giovenco. This foundation was further enriched by her upbringing in a creative family, a father who is an industrial designer and a mother who is a sculptor and stained-glass artist.
Her work examines how people interact with their surroundings, capturing the subtle connections between space and presence through a poetic visual narrative. She focuses on recurring themes such as roads, paths, surfaces, shadows, and projections. Her pieces blur the line between place and memory, inviting deeper reflection on the spaces we inhabit.
Today, Patricia’s practice embraces various artistic forms, including photography, painting, video art, sculpture, and installation. This variety indicates ceaseless experimentation and challenges the labeling of her art. Patricia’s multidisciplinary approach transcends boundaries, weaving together her personal history and diverse cultural experiences into a fluid, evocative narrative.
Throughout her career, Patricia has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including events in Milan, Berlin, Turin, and Art Basel. She has received significant recognition, such as being selected for the Italian Pavilion poster at EXPO Milano in 2015 and winning the Carlo Bonatto Minella Prize in 2017. She has also created public installations and received prestigious awards, including the Celeste Prize for video art in 2014 and being selected for a land art installation at the International Festival of Water Treatment Plants in 2019. She collaborates with institutions and foundations, developing projects that explore the intersection of art and social awareness.
